The Fair Practices Code is a set of ethical principles for work and collaboration in the culture, arts, and creative industries. It addresses the need to improve working conditions, strengthen trust, and establish sustainable practices within the sector.
It serves as a practical framework for day-to-day decision-making, establishing collaborations, and developing long-term strategies.
The Code is intended for:
- all professionals in the cultural and creative sectors,
- organizations, institutions, producers, and independent practitioners,
- public administration, foundations, and donors,
- as well as the general public as a tool for understanding the value of culture.
It applies to all types of working relationships and across disciplines (arts, cultural heritage, design, audiovisual arts, literature, etc.).
How to Apply the Code:
- The Code is a tool for reflecting on one’s own practice and engaging in dialogue with partners;
- it helps identify problems, draft contracts, and find solutions;
- it applies across a variety of situations.
A specific organization’s code reflects its particular situation, conditions, and needs.
The “Understand and Explain” Principle
It is not always possible to fulfill all principles. In such cases, it is important to:
- explain the reasons,
- share the context of the decision,
- and create space for improvement.
Shared Responsibility
Implementing the code is a shared commitment of the entire sector. Everyone who adheres to the code should:
- actively use it,
- communicate its principles externally,
- contribute to its further development.
