For the past year at NIK, together with associations and organizations across various artistic disciplines, we have been exploring what sustainable and fair working conditions mean in the cultural sector. It turns out that each discipline faces slightly different issues—in some cases, licensing is crucial; in others, timely contractual arrangements, transparent communication, or limiting unpaid work are key. Pricing structures in individual fields is a topic in its own right. It is precisely the sharing of both good and bad practices that helps us better identify what works, where problems arise, and what can be done differently.
In May, we presented the results of this collaborative effort to a select professional audience.
NIK is now preparing a study on fair compensation and practices in the cultural sector in collaboration with participating associations across various fields. We will present it on November 26, 2026, at the conference “Focal point: The Power of the Collective,” which we are co-organizing with the Creative Europe Desk at Archa+.
